Home Network Guide and Home Automation
A Home Network allows the distribution throughout the home of the incoming services (TV signals both analogue and digital, Telephone and data) via a structured cabling system. It allows a flexible and convenient method of distribution rather than the standard fixedTV and telephone points favoured by some builders and electricians.
Any Home Network outlet port in any room can be a TV, Data (computer - internet etc) or telephone outlet. A single gang socket (a single gang socket has the same dimensions as a single AC 230 volt wall socket) can have two home network outlets and these may be a combination of data, telephone or TV.
You will need to decide on the number of network ports in each room and we would suggest to cable for up to four locations in the main living areas. A rough guide being that wherever you have a double 230v socket you have a data point (not forgetting that any outlet point could be data, TV, telephone, IR etc.,) and a lesser amount of network points in lightly used areas i.e. spare bedrooms etc.
The cables to each point are a Cat5 and a Coaxial (WF100). This will allow a combination of TV and data / telephone. In home offices and studies where you might want a multitude of data, faxes and telephones you should run additional Cat 5 network cables. Full cable specification is detailed in our designs.
Open House Network
The Open House home network can be installed by most competent electricians and advanced DIY'er. Many of our home network are supplied only and come with detailed installation guides. However, bear in mind we are always only a phone call away and if you choose we can supply and fit all systems for complete 'peace of mind'.
CCTV and Door Entry
CCTV needs a Co-ax and Cat 5 to each camera location. If you include a modulator to the home network system any TV on the network can then be used as a viewing monitor. Many people are now adding cameras to nurseries and children's play areas. Door entry systems and viewing can use the existing TV's as monitors and the telephone networks to communicate with visitors.
Multi Room Audio
Multi room audio systems allow you to have up to six sources of AV equipment i.e. (CD's, DVD's Radio Tuners, Sound Servers and VCR's) in a central location and for it to be distributed to different rooms - utilising the home network - with full control of the source equipment in any location simultaneously with other users in other rooms.
Surround Sound and Home Cinema
Home movie and surround sound systems need provisioning for at the cabling - wiring - stages. These can be a simple 5.1 surround sound amp with a normal wide screen TV or plasma. If you are going to use your normal TV viewing room for home movies then this would be implemented with surround sound system. If you are having a separate home cinema then this would come under the home cinema section. You would also need to choose whether you would like a wall-mounted screen.
Scene - Mood - Setting Lighting
Scene - Mood - setting lighting can be installed on a room by room basis. A network room controller can control up to 6 circuits of lighting allowing muliple scenes by varying the percentage of light in each circuit to a single source electronic remote control switch. This allows a preset of your popular light settings such as dining, watching TV/Movies, entertaining and party modes. You would need to indicate which rooms you would like networked scene setting and the number of circuits proposed for each room
